The Nou Mestalla completes the installation of the compression ring and the 50 pillars that will support the large roof
In addition, the radial cables that will support the roof itself are currently being installed
FCC Construcción, along with Horta Coslada, are building the 50 steel pillars which will support a load of 4,800 tonnes
In January, Valencia CF began work to complete the construction of the Nou Mestalla. Since then, recent months have involved the building of the roof structure for the stadium.
One of the biggest features of the new stadium will be the roof, which will filter the light of the Mediterranean, protecting all 70,044 seats from both sun and rain, and enhance the acoustic effect from the stands to the pitch. Over this roof, Octopus Energy -a Valencia CF Sustainable Founding Partner- will implement a photovoltaic system, consisting of solar panels with intelligent system management, on its exterior perimeter. The roof will be a source of green energy and, with this unique addition, will help consolidate the Nou Mestalla as a symbol of pride and innovation for the city and as a true environmental benchmark.
FCC Construcción will work together with Horta Coslada, a leading Spanish company in the design, manufacture, engineering, and assembly of all types of metal structures, such as the roofs of football stadiums like the Santiago Bernabéu, Riyadh Air Metropolitano, San Mamés, Stade Vélodrome, RCDE Stadium, and Ciutat de València. The process for the project has already begun, whilst in the city of Valencia, they are also responsible for the construction of the Azud de l’Or weir for the bridge at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias.
The roof of the Nou Mestalla will weigh 4,800 tonnes and will be supported by 50 S355 steel pillars. These pillars will constitute the main columns of the facade and will have a rectangular (closed) section of 1.200x760 mm, in addition to others measuring 1.400x850 mm and 1.400x760 mm, with a base of plates that will form reinforced sections with longitudinal and transverse stiffeners.
